Tooth forms of circular saw blades and their purpose

Carbide-tipped (TCT)

  • Triple-chip grind (TCG): wear-resistant, clean cut – often used for aluminium, non-ferrous metals and plastics.
  • Flat top (FT): robust – often used for rip cuts and rough cutting.
  • Alternate top bevel (ATB): teeth bevelled alternately left and right – clean edges.
  • Chip breaker groove (STN): splits the chip, easier chip removal, smoother running.
  • Group tooth design: teeth arranged in recurring groups – smoother running, less vibration.

HSS metal circular saw blades

  • A – pointed tooth: fine, pointed teeth for thin-walled profiles and tubes.
  • AW – pointed tooth, alternately bevelled: like A, particularly clean cuts.
  • B – curved tooth: large gullet, for solid material and thick walls.
  • BW – curved tooth, alternately bevelled: like B, smooth running and clean edges.
  • STN – chip breaker groove: splits the chip, easier chip removal, smoother running.
